Children and Young People’s Facilitator
In September 2007, Mantell Gwynedd secured an allocation by CYMORTH to support the role of the Children and Young People’s Facilitator for the Third Sector.
Such role was recognised to provide support and also to facilitate the link between the Third Sector and the Children and Young People’s Partnership in Gwynedd.
A similar position is in every county throughout Wales which makes it an important resource to ensure that organisations that involve children and young people have the opportunity to be heard.
It is a full time position located in Mantell Gwynedd in Caernarfon. One of the main responsibilities of the role is to develop and support children and young people’s networks within the county and to make sure that the voice of the Third Sector is heard. In addition to the Facilitator, a number of other representatives of the sector form members of the ‘Children and Young People’s Strategic Partenership’ (lnk to http://www.mantellgwynedd.com/cym/gwacynrhb.html.)
The partnership is responsible for facilitating and complementing the developments in relation to issues which involve children and young people such as education, health and welfare, safety, play opportunity, leisure and culture, accommodation needs etc.

You may contact any of the representatives if you wish to raise any issues in the Partnership meetings.
In addition to attending the Partnership meetings and organise the Network meetings, the Facilitator will be representing the Sector on other groups and Partnerships e.g. Local Child Protection Board, CAMHS, Voluntary Sector Support Group (Children in Wales).
One of the main important elements to the Sector is ensuring that relevant information is easily shared. The Facilitator manages a regular system where information is sent out to local groups by different means e.g. contributing quarterly to ‘Mantell’ - a newsletter for the whole Sector provided by Mantell Gwynedd, send relevant information when necessary, regular news on Mantell Gwynedd’s website including contribution to other newsletters and websites either locally or nationally. We plea on organisations to make use of this service to present information in order to circulate, share and also to receive these information!
There are seminars, conferences and discussion groups organised for consultation purposes.
During the above events we provide an evaluation form and use this information to improve the service we provide in order to recognise any particular needs and be aware of any gaps in the current service.
Promoting partnerships and cooperation between organisations is high on the Facilitators’ agenda. This already takes place within the Third Sector naturally. The hope is to nurture a healthy relationship with the Partnership so that a similar cooperation is equally encouraged between organisations of the Sector and the Partnership.
