Millennium Volunteers
If you are 16-25 years old, there are different schemes to identify and encourage young volunteers.
The Millennium Volunteers is a U.K. wide initiative designed to promote and recognise volunteering among young people aged 16 – 25.
Here are 6 reasons to volunteer:
- To gain new experience
- To make new friends
- To develop new skills
- To improve work prospects
- Recognised by employers, colleges and the local community
- To enjoy yourself!
And if you are volunteering it is well worth registering on the ‘Millennium Volunteer Scheme’
What does it involve?
- You can register locally with the Gwynedd Volunteering Centre. (this involves completing two forms and agreeing to keep a note of all the hours that you volunteer).
- Your aim would be to volunteer for 200 hours in a year. You will be recognised for volunteering for a minimum of 50 hours.
- You can do anything that will help your local community.
- You can volunteer with more than one organisation e.g. reading tapes for the blind, taking part in a sponsored walk, helping with reading schemes ........
- When you have completed 50 hours and 100 hours of volunteering, you will receive a Certificate.
- After completing 200 hours of volunteering in a year, you will receive an Award Of Excellence from the First Minister of The National Assembly for Wales in recognition of your hard work and commitment.
It’s your choice – It will not cost you anything. All volunteer expenses will be paid.
If you would like to become a ‘Millennium Volunteer’, contact us (registration form). We will help you find a volunteering placement to suit your interest and the time that you have to offer.
