Mantell Gwynedd support, develop and advice voluntary and community organisations in Gwynedd

Mantell's WorkGwynedd Health, Social Care & Wellbeing Partnership

The Gwynedd Health, Social Care and well-being Partnership Board has been established to oversee and co-ordinate the development and implementation of the Better Gwynedd-Better Health Strategy which became operational in April 2005. The Partnership Board has a shared vision which is “to aim for a level of health and well-being for the people of Gwynedd, comparable to the best in Europe.”

The objectives are to improve health, social care and well being the people of Gwynedd, improve services and ensure improved planning and resources. The Strategy offers an opportunity to concentrate on how to tackle the underlying determinants of health and health inequalities in Gwynedd.

These are the main priority areas for 2005-2008:

  • Older people
  • Children, Young People and Young Parents
  • Circulatory Diseases (coronary heart disease, stroke and diabetes)
  • Cancer (lung, breast and colorectal)
  • Injuries
  • Other key population groups (carers, homeless, learning disabilities, disabled people (physical and sensory impairment), unemployed and ethnic minorities)

In addition to the above, the following cross-cutting themes will be considered alongside the six priority areas – mental health, unacceptable inequalities in health, social determinants of health & access to services.

For 2005-2008 the Partnership Board has agreed to concentrate on the following areas:

  • Lifestyle issues – alcohol, food and nutrition, physical activity , smoking
  • Injuries
  • Housing
  • Information
  • Access to services/Transport
